How to change and get out of routines-1

It is easy to get lost in daily routines because our brain is programmed to do that for surviving.

Thanks to this function of our brain, we can stay stable and focus on what we are doing. However, this is also the source of unhappiness. Surviving is not a concern in today’s world. At least physical survival…

It is like a yin and yang. We need conflicts and opposite poles in our life. Especially in today’s world that our lifestyles are not limited with our environment and we can know about everything all around the world.

Almost everyone thinks about life whether it is just born-grow up-study-work-(maybe marry)-(have a child) and let your child join the same chain-die; whether it is just homework, sitting in the cafe in free time, going to bar every weekend, going to the beach every summer.

Is the just a sum of boring routines? What is the alternative?

There is no answer to these questions. However, there are always ways to break this chain or fill it up with different things.

It starts with an ancient Greek cliche:

GNOTHI SEAUTON, KNOW-THYSELF, KNOW YOURSELF

Socrates says: “If you want to change something, you should start from your self”

This sentence looks simple and boring because of self-development freaks but it is also the truth.

Who are you? What are you? What do you want to do?

You need to answer these questions to start. You should also think about what defines you, how can you describe yourself, who do you want to be…

Why are you unhappy or uncomfortable at that exact moment?

Why are you looking for a change?

How can you be reborn?

These questions are the first step of your change and yourself-recognition. You feel like you are faking and evolving yourself to one who you are not.

Think that!

If you don’t know yourself, how you can be sure that it is the one you are supposed to be?

What makes you ‘you’? Are you a person independent from the environment? No.

Is it really you?

DO IT! ACT! MOVE!

Probably, most of us are struggling with acting. It is easy to say but hard to do. Because changing a habit, a flow, interconnections in your brain means spending more power.

It means that you need to fight with everything you did until now, everything you believed, every habit, every routine, everything in your comfort zone.

Therefore, it is important to understand and accept the fact. Instead of saying there is no time, you should ACT RIGHT NOW!

BELIEVE IN CHANGE, BELIEVE YOURSELF and BE STRONG

If you are doing something, you have to believe that you need to do that.

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

said Martin Luther King, Jr. That faith changed his life and has been changing millions of lives. Check this link out for some more motivation:

QUESTION!

Like knowing yourself, questioning is important. You need to question your daily tasks, their accuracy, correctness, the effort you give, the money you spend. Is it the correct job/task for you?

You can be aware of your life only this way. You can take responsibility for your life only like this so that you can do something just because you want it, not because you have to.

When Socrates was accused of atheism and corrupting the belief of young people and he was sentenced to death. He said:

The unexamined life is not worth living

because the unexamined life was just a waste and ignorance for him. Those people don’t live their own life but they just follow the crowd and are shaped by society.

Questioning means biologically ‘to use the brain’. On the other hand, routines are routines because we do them without any thinking effort.

ACCEPT, BE CONSCIOUS, FACE and LOWER THE EXPECTATION

BE CONSCIOUS AND BE AWARE!

This was the reason why we said ‘know yourself’ at the beginning. You can be conscious only if you know what you want. This is the only way to save yourself from routine cycles (work-home-cafe-bar/born-grow-study-marry-have a child and die)

This is the only way that you don’t let the storm lead you somewhere randomly. The only way to get out of the way of living that your family and society teach you.

Don’t worry that consciousness will make you lonely! Don’t be afraid to be alone!

In the end, you will see that you are not alone. You will see that you were with the wrong people and finally you find the correct ones.

How much you get away from life, that much you get closer to life

It doesn’t mean that you need to be disconnected. It means that you should find your way in instead of drowning in-crowd.

Reality and consciousness may lead you to loneliness for some time but later you will be that charismatic person who inspires people, who are a role model for others and who is %100 confident.

FACE!

Another version of consciousness is facing yourself. If you don’t face your concerns, fears, expectations; these will rot you inside and make you hopeless. Our fears and limited mind kill our desire, reduce our confidence and destroy our motivation. Therefore, we should accept that soon or later we will face them, all our worries will come true. So, isn’t it better to face them early and have a plan to deal with them?

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATION!

Expectations are the main reason for our unhappiness and depression in today’s world that we have advanced technology and incredible connection with the world. We cannot accept our position and we cannot be realistic about our limits and expectations. We always want more and more because we see no difference with people who have more although we don’t have an idea about individual background and surroundings.

They did it, I can also do it.

This is good motivation but not realistic. Don’t be so cruel to yourself. Just consider your position, your surrounding, and your opportunities. Prioritize your wishes and wait for the correct time!

BE PATIENT!

No success comes suddenly. Learning how to walk or how to go to the moon. They are all the same and go through the same steps. First, you collect the information, apply it,d fail. You get experience. You also get the experience of others to progress fast and every trial you go a few steps further and in the end, the process wins. You reach your goal.

No one becomes a parent suddenly. Nobody becomes an expert at once. Nobody has friends at a stroke. You worked for all of these. You spent time and progressed. It is maybe so much technology that makes us want everything immediately but life is not working like that.

Although we forget the process after we reach the goal, for everything we do and have in life, we spend regular time and effort.

to be continued….
