Relativity of Life Styles

2020 and 2021 has been quite interesting years. Our all routines, habits were affected by various of situations. The most important was the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although science warned us multiple times about it, nobody would imagine a pandemic experience before. It is weird right? Bacterias, viruses, pandemic and all disaster has millions years of history, whereas human history is just 300.000 years.

Another interesting thing is our habits and normals. The most normal things today were either not existed 30 years ago or it was different. Our life styles are evolving very fast as technology changes but we are not aware of that. Consuming habits, fashion sense, free time activities, free time perception itself, job descriptions, products we eat, products we use, working style, life expectancies, life time, tools we use, transportation, telecommunication, conversations… Everything has changed. Every passing year it is changing faster and faster.

Our brains remain slow to digest the all information.

In short, life gets faster as well as problems. People still think that we have time to fix things, save the world, face the climate change, pollution, migration … but no. Every event happens in 100 years in the past is happening in 5 years now and our time keeps shrinking.

I say like this but what I see is everybody perceive all these changes with different pace. One of the example is pandemic. Some countries control the situation well and there were not %100 lockdown. For other countries, it was like imprisoning. Some countries made vaccine propaganda well and provide a good progress, while others are still suspicious and mix things up with politics. In a sense that everybody is right with their perspective.

Topic of global warming is the same. Some countries are experiencing these though since years, some think that it is a lie or never hit them… until… they are hit by it.

You cannot tell a refugee or villager in africa, middle east that they need to consider global warming. You cannot tell also a western european that they need to change their luxury life style because it is unfriendly to environment.

We all make this mistake. When something happens like a war in Afghanistan, India, Syria or wild fire in Australia, Turkey, Greece or flood in Germany, Belgium or water scarcity in Mexico, South Africa or a pollution of ocean in panama or re-education camps and genocide in China or protests in Taiwan or elections and rebellion in USA, terror in Nigeria; we just react with our own reality. When we talk about education, gender neutrality, animal rights, human rights; we judge everyone with our own facts. We just check statistics and directly comment on it like black and white. We always ignore the main source of problem, local reality, back story.

This is the problem of our century. Too much information, too many ideas, too much independence and freedom of speech. However, less knowledge, less reality, less logic and empathy.

We are too far from reality and too far from solving problems. All we need to do is to identify the problem well with all aspects and parameters and embrace it as a problem of humanity but we are too far from it. However, we have no idea about other’s reality.

One of my favourite saying from 100 years ago:

“Mankind is a single body and each nation a part of that body. We must never say “What does it matter to me if some part of the world is ailing?” If there is such an illness, we must concern ourselves with it as though we were having that illness.”

We still think that that problem will not find us. We are still far from understanding it and diagnosing it correctly. Relativity of life styles, relativity of the perception is killing us slowly like cancer.

We are so far from each other!
